In 1988 I moved to Albany to get out of the restaurant business. I was nearly 22 years-old and, for the first time, a full time college student. Going to college was supposed to provide me with a career that was not based in the hospitality industry - not because I didn't love it, but rather because I was reluctant to make restaurant work all I was qualified to do.
Now, more than 25 years since I first arrived in Albany and a mere block and a half from my first apartment, I find myself with the previously unimagined title of restaurateur. Oh, Universe, you do have quite the sense of humor!
The years in between have been filled with wonderful experiences - adventures as a mother of three boys, a career as a school librarian, creative explorations in photography and writing, and falling in love with Albany. I've also worked in various capacities in Albany's best restaurants - Yono's, Stone Ends during Dale Miller's tenure, McGuire's, at the restaurant formerly known as The Wine Bar and Bistro – and I've made cherished friendships along the way.
I'm excited to bring my professional knowledge and personal touch to Lark + Lily. With my staff, I intend to create a destination where neighbors and newcomers are equally comfortable. I hope that our kitchen will be your frequent choice for a quick bite or a relaxing meal. Welcome!
